Trip to the Neanderthal Museum

Last weekend, we did our first "touristy" thing since we have been here.  We went to the Neanderthal Museum about 20 minutes away from us.   One of the first neanderthals was found here in the mid 1800's.   Neander was a Dusseldorf theologian and the valley region was named for him.  And Neanderthal man was named for the region.

The find and subsequent research was quite controversial as the Biblical account of creation was the accepted human history of the time and man was only about 10000 years old and not several hundred thousand years.

Also at the museum, they had a special exhibit on the wooly mammoth.  The website said they had the Siberian mammoth found a few years ago.  It was just a recreation - bummer.

We had a good time and love the picture of the kids.
